After studying at the University of Sao Paulo, Michelle Agnes Magalhaes studied with S. Sciarrino. In 2014, she joined the Analysis of Musical Practices team at IRCAM in the framework of the project "Musical gesture: models and experiments". She is currently a postdoctoral fellow in composition "À double entente: l'invention du dialogue écriture - improvisation" in the Musical Representations team at IRCAM.
Her music explores the boundaries between gesture and writing, improvisation and composition. From 2009 to 2011, she was a pianist in the improvisation ensemble Abaetetuba and played in a duo with the double bass player Celio Barros. Since 2016, she has been working with Béatrice Sauvageot on projects combining music and neurology, and within DysOrchestre, an improvised music ensemble.
