Rebecca Saunders

  • Composer

Rebecca Saunders studied composition at the University of Edinburgh with N. Osborne and later with W. Rihm in Germany.

One of her main compositional preoccupations is the study of the sculptural properties of structured sound. chroma explores 19 variations of an expandable collage of 24 chamber groups and sound sources in different architectural spaces. Insideout is a collage for a choreographic installation, in collaboration with S. Waltz. Her most ambitious work in space, yes, is a spatialized performance for soprano, 19 soloists and conductor, with musicians navigating through "modules" to form a musical collage.

She also collaborates with musicians such as M. Blaauw, N. Hodges, T. Anzellotti and S. Ballon to develop solos.
